New England cottontail monitoring

If you enjoy spending time outdoors, and/or you're interested in working with wildlife, you can become part of a region-wide effort to monitor populations of New England cottontails.  Volunteers are needed to collect rabbit fecal pellets this fall and winter.  Learn more about New England cottontail research and monitoring here.

This position involves working outside in cold temperatures, moving through dense shrubby habitat, and frequent bending to pick up pellets.  Warm clothing that is sturdy enough to resist thorns is a must.  Ticks will be a risk on warmer days.
