Are you interested in gaining valuable field experience while contributing to an important
wildlife monitoring project? Our lab is looking for volunteers to conduct hair snare surveys this summer to monitor American black bear populations in Rhode Island. Survey stations are statewide!
Volunteer Duties
Monitor and maintain assigned snare station
once a week from June to mid-September
Collect hair samples and place scent lures at
station each week
Maintain trail camera at survey station
Bring samples to URI lab for identification
Requirements for participation:
Attend 1 training session (see application for
dates)
Availability to visit your assigned sites on a
weekly basis throughout the field season
and come to URI campus every 2-3 weeks
for supplies
Willingness to work in difficult field conditions (ticks, briars, etc.)
Regular access to a vehicle is necessary
This would be a great opportunity for students to get some easy field experience for their resumes over the summer - and it is a great excuse to get outside! Could you please forward this to the other Wildlife Society members? The volunteer application is found here!
